I know you want to have one of those cool web sites that's cutting edge with lots of flash and explosive graphics. Hey there's nothing wrong with that, if you want a cool web site get you one. But before you do ask yourself why do you want a cool, flashy website? Most likely the answer is because you want to attract lots and lots of people right? So you're on the right track, you know you need lots of eyeballs looking at your site but to do that you need to have something more than just flashy graphics and that's content.
Think about the sites you visit. Sure, you love to look at the sites that catch your eye but you'll leave as soon as you've had your fill. You're interested in sites that can do something for you. Well so is everybody else.
You're not a pro webmaster yet so you have to make a decision. Do you want to pay someone to do the work for you or are you willing to put in the time to learn to use software?
This puts the choice of software in a different light than before. You could choose software that offers the flash that attracts but will it also offer the ability to optimize your content directly from the posts? Will the flashy software provide you with a database that allows you to categorize your posts and add tags that the search engines see?
Most of that flashy stuff won't allow you to showcase what people are looking for and that's content they can use. The software that does have both is lacking in support and available plugins.
We're all asking what's in it for me and if your only answer is amazing graphics they're gone.
It really is sad though that you have to give up all that flashy stuff just to get awesome site-optimizing software.
Wouldn't it be nice if somebody built software that could grow with you? You could start off slow as a newbie and as you learned what your market was looking for you could slowly add to your site. The good news is that something like that does exist. The software I'm talking about has thousands of plugins that will allow the novice to spend a little time and show up like a pro and the pro to out-flash the flashy sites.
Ok, I won't keep you in suspense any longer, I'm talking about WordPress. Now there are two different WordPresses; there's WordPress.com where they will host it for you for free but you don't get all the capabilities like plugins and video and then there's WordPress.org where the software is free but you must purchase a hosting plan to house your site.
I could go on about other sites that offer their versions of site building software but the reality is if you are serious about building your own online empire you should learn and use WordPress.
