Managing Your Site Doesn't Have to Be Difficult By Lynette Chandler

Web development in the past required gobs of HTML knowledge. Perhaps that is why the idea of managing a website seem like a daunting task to many. The good news is, today's technologies allow you to quickly create dynamic, interactive pages where you once needed a skilled web developer to program.
Despite all these advances, not all website creation tools are alike. So, if you are looking to manage your website without too much difficulty, starting with the right system can make a huge difference. For this, WordPress is highly recommended.
Though originally built as a blogging platform, it is incredibly flexible, thanks to the vast number of plugins and themes available for you to choose from. Even if you do not find a plugin that does it just right, you will find there are plenty of developers out there who are familiar with it and able to help you.
Besides flexibility, WordPress is amazingly easy to use. Adding a new page to your site is as simple as opening a new file and writing in a word processor. Changing your menu links is a matter of selecting what you want to appear and editing your sidebar features is as simple as dragging and dropping.
Even adding new functionality to your website like creating forms of all kinds, adding photo galleries and building a community is easily done by installing a plugin. Though that may sound scary, it truly isn't. You only need to do a search for a plugin - all done within the software - click install and WordPress takes care of that and finally one more click to activate the plugin and just like that, it is ready to use.
What about upgrades and maintenance? That is often tricky right? Well, not with WordPress. They have built-in an easy update feature that works pretty well. When there are updates, you will see a notice in the administration dashboard. A click of a button begins the update process. This same update procedure applies for any plugins you have installed. You can even mass update the plugins with one click.
The key with updates is not waiting too long in between. The longer you wait, the more differences between the current version and your installed version. This could cause problems where you might need to call in the technical cavalry. Considering how simple the update process is, keeping your installation current need not be a stumbling block.
Still a little skeptical? Especially when it comes to customizing the design? That too, can easily be solved in WordPress when the right theme is chosen. There are many themes like Builder from iThemes that will allow you to change your layout with simple point and click actions. Other themes even allow you to drag and drop components to create the design you want.
Now that you see how easy it can be, the next step is to experience it. Find a good guide whom you can ask questions when you get stuck and you're ready to build a fantastic site that you can manage on your own as easily as riding a bike.
